Caught by the Shore: Fish, Fishing, and Fishers in Turkish Cyprus

Turkish Cyprus is the north half of an island in the eastern Mediterranean. This document explores factors surrounding fish and fishing there, primarily through the small number of professional fishers. Taking an overview of what being a fisher is and the pressures and eases of this way of living, touching on the ecological and economic factors, and persons’ relationship to the terrain, I will dynamically visualize basic relationships between actors involved. From a Commons analysis I will accept the local assertion that there is no future for fishing in Turkish Cyprus, but re-engage with a holistic visualization of the fabric of relationships fishers are wrapped in, to see the different agencies involved.
